Jardim Botânico (Botanical Gardens)
Located in Rio’s “Zona Sul,” these beautiful gardens were founded by John VI of Portugal in 1808. Tucked into the base of Corcovado Mountain, in the shadow of the Christ the Redeemer statue, the gardens display the rich variety of Brazil’s indigenous flora.
Arcos da Lapa (Lapa Arches)
Built to transport water from the Carioca River in the hillside neighborhood of Santa Teresa to the downtown area, the Lapa Viaduct features 42 massive stone arches that were built between 1744 and 1750.
Corcovado (Christ the Redeemer Statue)
Sitting atop 690-meter Corcovado Mountain, the Christ the Redeemer Statue is undoubtedly the most famous tourist attraction in Brazil and one of the most iconic images in the world. Offering stunning views of the city below, it is visited by more than one million Brazilians and foreign travellers every year.

This massive concrete fort was constructed just before World War I with 12-meter thick ramparts and a colossal 305 millimeter cannon capable of launching artillery shells nearly 15 miles out to sea. Today, the museum contains targeting instruments for the cannons and the Café do Forte, which is a great place to relax and enjoy unparalleled views of the city.
Pedra do Leme
